Miguel Torga, literary pseudonym Adolfo Correia da Rocha, doctor, was born in São Martinho de Anta, Sabrosa, municipality of Vila Real, in 12th August 1907. He studied in the seminary of Lamego and in 1920 he immigrates to Brazil because he had a uncle there, who incentives him to go to Leopoldina Highschool.

Miguel Torga, literary pseudonym Adolfo Correia da Rocha, doctor, was born in São Martinho de Anta, Sabrosa, municipality of Vila Real, in 12th August 1907. He studied in the seminary of Lamego and in 1920 he immigrates to Brazil because he had a uncle there, who incentives him to go to Leopoldina Highschool. When he returned to Portugal in 1925 he goes to Medicine School of Coimbra in 1928 and he finishes it in 1933.
His first literary title is a book of poems called Ansiedade in 1928. In 1931 he publishes Pão Ázimo, his first prose book. He collaborates with the magazine Presença but he steps aside to follow a path of stubborn independence. His work adopts a universal dimension. His work emanates from his significant presence in life, from telluric and ancestral roots that are the foundation for the conscious satisfaction of his creativity and sustain his democratic struggle, against the several limitations that imprison the human being. Miguel Torga, touched by the mankind anguish, feels and creates poetry immersed in the physical and moral pain of his equal.
His work is bound to stay forever because of its unusual aesthetic value, with a perfect narrative technic, with a rich vocabulary and a classic poetic sobriety.
Adolfo da Correia Rocha passed away in Coimbra in 17th January 1995 and he rests in his hometown beside his parents and sister.
